Meditation as a tool for presence

My very favorite tool for getting present is meditation. I know, I know, you might be thinking that you can’t meditate. Hear me out.

Mindfulness meditation is simply the practice of noticing and allowing over and over again. There really is no right or wrong way to do it. And there are so many kinds of meditation. When I very first started a practice a few years ago, I would set a timer for 5 minutes and focus on my breath. I would get distracted, but I would come back to my breath as many times as it took. That was fine, but I really started to love the practice when I experimented with guided meditations and especially meditations that require the use of your imagination. Now I consider my practice a combination of breath awareness, body awareness, and intuitive imagination. My prayers have become much more effective since starting this practice!

Create space and time to be present

Meditation is a way to create space and time to be present. I have been amazed at the insights, the promptings, the knowing that has surfaced as I have practiced. For me it is a healing modality I never want to forget.

My favorite simple meditation is a body scan awareness meditation that helps me let go of any tension I am holding. When I get present using this tool, often impressions and intuitive hits will come to me freely. Scan your body one part at a time, consciously letting go of any tension or tightness. Search for any sensations or emotions that you notice. Let go of what isn’t serving you and breathe in anything you want.

Come to a Presence Demo on 1/4/24 and I will lead the group through a tension release meditation. Register here to get the zoom information.
