Do you know a woman who you think should be bigger, brighter, and louder in this world because of her amazing-ness? Maybe that woman is you? Please share this episode with her and let her know. In this episode I discuss the reason behind the work I do and why I am led to healing work. I quote from President Nelson’s 2015 talk A Plea to my Sisters inviting women to step into a bigger, brighter, louder version of themselves and add the word “heal” to his list of what women should do. Many of us have been spiritually and emotionally wounded into believing we shouldn’t speak up and become a bigger version of ourselves, so we first have to do the healing work.
If you want to take me up on my invitation and be supported in your personal healing work by me, please join the Erémos. (And do you have an idea for a re-name for this community of mothers/women who heal, mothers who are becoming more righteous and articulate? If so, let me know here.)
I would love to have this podcast be a conversation between me and you. If you have a question, positive or negative feedback, or just want to get my thoughts, fill out this short form and I’ll respond on the podcast.

Mothers who Heal
On my website, the heading says, “Mothers Who Heal” and the sub-heading is “Inner work to create eternal relationships you actually want.” The women and mothers who I talk to are concerned about their eternal relationships, but they feel like THEY are the problem. They feel that if they could just change, everything would be okay. Sure, maybe the also would like their husbands and kids to be a bit different, but the primary problem is herself.
In 2015 President Nelson gave a landmark talk called A Plea to My Sisters. In that talk he invites the women of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to become a bigger, brighter, louder version of themselves. I went through the entire talk and listed all the things he says women of the Church should do. I wanted the words to be verbs, because when we are becoming a new version of ourselves it’s important that we can see in our minds eye what that looks like. Here is that list:
- love
- learn
- exercise faith
- convert
- convict
- lead
- act (with courage)
- speak
- covenant
- organize
- plan
- direct
- administer
- minister
- speak out
- discern
- harvest (make important things happen with their faith)
- defend (morality)
- shepherd
- receive revelation
- understand (the endowment)
- counsel
- pray
- influence
- intuit
- access God’s power
- arise
Righteous, Articulate Women
I wanted to just highlight a few of these words as things that righteous, articulate women do.
- Speak. One of the main themes of the talk is being articulate, speaking up, and speaking out in ward and stake councils, and in families and communities.
- Covenant. What is the action to righteousness? Making covenants!
- Discern. It is becoming increasingly difficult to discern right from wrong, good from evil. Women who can discern will be leaders in the last days!
- Harvest. I used this word to refer to when President Nelson said, “We need women who know how to make important things happen with their faith.” This is the law of the harvest in my mind.
- Arise. He doesn’t specifically use this word, but he is calling women into a bigger, bolder version of themselves, and I have pondered and studied the word “arise” throughout the scriptures, and it is my opinion that is what “arise” means.
What Gets in Our Way?
If a prophet of God needs to invite and remind women to do these things, we must not be doing them as fully as the Lord desires. What gets in our way of doing so? I believe it is our wounding. Many, many women I have spoken to have experienced spiritual and emotional wounding.
When men and women who claim to be disciples of Jesus Christ hurt us, it confuses us about who Jesus Christ is, who God is, and who we are. That confusion and shame keeps us quiet, small, and unnoticed.
But also, our larger western culture conditions us into specific roles and work that tends to keep us small and insignificant. I am sure an adversary working against us is part of that.
Healing work
So I add to the list of what the women of the Church should do: heal. Before we can become bigger, brighter, and louder, we often have to heal.
I speak of healing both as an inner work we do between ourselves and Christ, but also as an outer work we can help others do. When we see ourselves as a healer, it is our ethical and moral duty to make sure we are the vessel, not the healer. We should make sure people can see Christ through us and give credit and devotion to Him, not to us.
So, is there anything wrong with you? No. The only thing wrong is the message that you aren’t good enough, that people won’t like you, that you don’t matter. We want and need you to be bigger, brighter, and louder in a world turning away from Jesus Christ.
My Invitation
I invite you to reflect on what healing work you need. Then go seek help to heal and receive that healing. If you want my support in healing, I would be honored to have you in the Erémos, a community where we are seeking to become more righteous and articulate so we can fulfill the purpose of our creation. Alternatively, if you prefer to do this healing work on your own, you can schedule a discovery call to see if working with me is a good fit.
That’s enough for now and so are you!
xo,
Denita
